Court cracking down on illegal moose hunting

During a court hearing on November 23, Eric Bergeron of Cumberland and Maurice Gauthier of Kapuskasing both pleaded guilty to hunting moose without a licence.

The men were spotted by conservation officers during a moose decoy operation south of Kapuskasing. Gauthier and Bergeron were observed hunting a cow moose, and although they claimed to be hunting black bears, their actions and moose-hunting equipment made it clear that they were in fact hunting moose. Neither man possessed a valid moose-hunting licence, and thus were each issued a fine of $1,500.
