Embrun Co-op has officially broken ground on a new multi-use building at 3 Lapalme Street in Embrun, marking the start of a major community investment that will house the future Embrun branch of the Township of Russell Public Library while creating new commercial and professional opportunities in the growing village.
Construction is scheduled to begin in early August 2026, with the project moving from the planning stage into active development. The building is designed to be modern, accessible, and flexible, bringing together public, commercial, and office spaces under one roof.
The future facility will serve as the new home of the Township of Russell Public Library’s Embrun branch, providing expanded library services for residents. In addition to the library, the building will include a 3,000-square-foot commercial unit on the ground floor, offering space for a business to establish itself in a central location in Embrun.
The second floor will feature approximately 8,000 square feet of adaptable office space designed to accommodate a range of professional and organizational needs. An open staircase and elevator within a floor-to-ceiling glass atrium will provide access to the upper level, while separate entrances for the library, commercial space, and offices will allow each area to operate independently.
Embrun Co-op says the project aligns with its mission of supporting community development and creating long-term benefits for residents. Developed in partnership with the Township of Russell, the building is intended to support a growing population while fostering economic activity and providing services closer to home.
“This groundbreaking marks an important milestone for our community and demonstrates what can be achieved when partners work together toward a shared vision,” said Michael Bois, chair of the board of directors of Embrun Co-op, Mike Tarnowski, mayor of the Township of Russell, and Laurie Clement, chair of the board of directors of the Township of Russell Public Library, in a joint statement.
“Through the collaboration of Embrun Co-op, the Township of Russell, and the Township of Russell Public Library, this project is moving forward after years of planning, discussion, and collective effort. This achievement reflects our shared commitment to the community and our common goal of creating a lasting legacy that residents will benefit from for generations to come,” the statement continued.
The project is expected to become a new community destination for residents, organizations, professionals, and businesses, while contributing to the continued growth and vibrancy of Embrun.
As construction gets underway, Embrun Co-op says the development stands as an example of collaboration between community organizations and municipal partners to meet the evolving needs of the region.
