Russell Run returns after two years

The Russell Run is back after two years of being absent due to COVID. The annual event is a way to bring together a community of runners that share a passion for staying in shape and running through nature. The run offers different lengths depending on a participant’s fitness goal, with two-kilometre and five-kilometre timed options. New this year is the 10-kilometre option for those who really want to test their limits.

“I added the 10k option because of park run, and I’m hoping it’ll attract a bigger crowd this year,” said organizer Michelle Leduc. “In previous years we’ve had around 80 to 100 people, but Russell has really grown in the past two years, so I’m hoping to get around 120 people this year.”

There is no time limit to the race, but organizers will track times so people can evaluate themselves and their progress. In addition, since the run is so close to Halloween, there will be a prize for the first runner in full costume to finish their run. The run will go on, rain or snow, so the organizers recommend keeping an eye on the weather and dressing accordingly.

“Nothing short of a hurricane will stop us,” said Leduc. “We have people that run in negative 20-degree weather.”
