Francis Brière will return as mayor of The Nation after being acclaimed in the 2026 municipal election, alongside five councillors who were also elected without opposition.

Brière was acclaimed to the mayor’s position for the 2026–2030 term, which begins November 15, 2026, and ends November 14, 2030.

Tim Stewart was acclaimed in Ward 1, Danik Forgues in Ward 3, Raymond Lalande in Ward 4, Daniel Boisvenue in Ward 5 and Marjorie Drolet in Ward 6.

Ward 2 was the only contested race, with three candidates competing for the council seat. Alain Mainville won with 315 votes, ahead of Francine Allaire, who received 219 votes, and Marie-Hélène Dion, who received 31 votes. Four voters declined to vote for a candidate.

The voter turnout for the race was 30.23 per cent.

Mainville will join the acclaimed councillors on the incoming council.

New term begins in November

The new council’s term officially begins on Sunday, November 15. The inaugural meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 16, at 6 p.m.

The council will serve through November 14, 2030.

With most positions decided by acclamation, the election results confirm continuity in the municipality’s leadership, while Ward 2 residents chose Mainville through a contested vote.
