The Township of Russell is inviting residents aged 55 and older to help shape a new fitness initiative designed to promote healthy and active living.

The municipality is currently developing EmpowerFit, a free fitness program aimed at improving physical health, fostering social connections and supporting the overall well-being of older adults in the community.

The initiative is being made possible through funding from the federal government’s New Horizons for Seniors Program.

As part of the planning process, township officials are seeking feedback from residents to ensure the program reflects the interests, needs and priorities of local seniors.

According to the township, community input will play an important role in determining the types of activities and services that will be offered through EmpowerFit.

Residents aged 55 and over are encouraged to complete a survey and share their ideas before June 28, 2026.

The township hopes the program will provide opportunities for older adults to stay active, build relationships and enhance their quality of life while participating in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Additional details about the program and the survey are available through the Township of Russell.
