Social media enlisted to help promote local youth services

Facebook and other social media will be the tools of a new project aimed at providing youth in Eastern Ontario with information on services to help them with employment, counselling, and other needs.

The Eastern Ontario Training Board (EOTB) announced the launch this month of the Young Adult Living project (YAL). This is a social media-based program for youth and young adults that focuses on information about and promotion of “essential community services” that support youth.

“It’s a one stop shop for young adults in our community,” stated Kimberly Hamilton, EOTB operations manager. “Through this initiative, we strive to engage, empower, and uplift the next generation, ensuring a brighter future for them and the community as a whole.”

YAL’s area of coverage is the Five Counties region of Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry and Prescott-Russell and the City of Cornwall. EOTB’s Service Coordination Group manages all the YAL social media pages through its Youth Strategy Committee. Providing input and referral aid for the YAL project are: ACESS, Carrefour de formation pour adultes inc., Centre de service à l’emploi de Prescott-Russell, Centre Moi j’apprends, Eastern Ontario Training Board, Glengarry Inter-Agency Group, Iohahi:io Adult Education Centre, Job Zone d’emploi, La Cité collégiale, Eastern Ontario Literacy Link, Ministry of Labour Immigration Training and Skills Development, Ontario Disability Support Program, Ontario Works, Performance Plus Rehabilitative Care Inc., TR Leger School, Tri-County Literacy Council, St. Lawrence College, and the Rideau-Ottawa Valley Learning Network.

Some of the information provided through the YAL project are notices about special events like job fairs and workshops that would help youth and young adults seeking employment, and also various social aid programs like mental health services. The YAL project will also work with local businesses and agencies like chambers of commerc and also areas schools and other organizations on promoting awareness of employment and community aid programs and services that may help local youth and young adults.

More information about YAL is available on its Facebook and Instagram pages at: Facebook:YoungAdultLiving and Instagram:YoungAdultLiving Together.
