The Mayor of Russell and Warden of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) officially resigned and was appointed as Chief Administrative Officer of The Nation municipality, following a special closed session council meeting on Tuesday, April 2.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In a press release following The Nation\u2019s council decision Tuesday night, the municipality of Russell released a statement regarding the Mayor\u2019s resignation, indicating that Leroux\u2019s focus will be \u201censuring a smooth handover\u201d and \u201ca seamless transition.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI have complete confidence that our administration and Council will come together,\u201d stated Richard Godin, chief administrative officer of Russell. \u201cOn behalf of the Township, I extend our sincere congratulations to Mayor Leroux on his new appointment at The Nation Municipality.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Leroux has served as mayor of Russell since 2014 and was first elected councillor in 2010. During that time he has served on the board of the Eastern Ontario Warden\u2019s Caucus and South Nation Conservation.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Before running for elected office, Leroux owned and operated a convenience store in Casselman, Pierre & Fils D\u00e9panneur\/Vid\u00e9o.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In describing his new CAO\u2019s qualifications, The Nation Mayor Francis Bri\u00e8re said Leroux is \u201ca very intelligent man, with experience\u201d, and \u201che’s a man who understands both sides of the table.”<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNot many people have the qualifications he has at the moment,\u201d said Bri\u00e8re, adding as Leroux has worked closely with CAOs as mayor, he understands the administrative postion \u201cthrough osmosis\u201d.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Leroux refused to answer questions regarding his appointment ahead of The Reflet’s deadline.<\/span><\/p>\n

Leroux\u2019s last day as Mayor of Russell will be April 18.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
