Over 150 people from throughout the region attended the outdoor event, which opened with remarks from several community leaders, including Larry McDermott from Shabot Obaadjiwan First Nation, Russell Township Mayor Pierre Leroux, City of Ottawa Councillor Catherine Kitts, and General Manager of Conservation Ontario Angela Coleman.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were also pleased to welcome Angela Coleman, or former General Manager, back home to Finch to hear about her new leadership with Conservation Ontario and to thank her for her 20-year career at SNC,\u201d said John Mesman, host of the event and Managing Director, Property, Conservation Lands, and Community Outreach. \u201cIt was incredible to see such strong support for SNC\u2019s programs and services and to hear from our municipal partners on their experiences with SNC\u2019s work through the decades.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is great to be back in Finch to celebrate SNC and this important milestone,\u201d said Coleman. \u201cThe work that SNC continues to do for Eastern Ontario is essential for the health and future prosperity of the local environment. The lands they maintain help form a Living Natural Legacy for our region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since being established by the Conservation Authorities Act of Ontario in 1947, the SNC has worked on behalf of 16 member municipalities in Eastern Ontario to protect the environment and get people involved in what goes on with the land they live on.
