Some of the highest speeds recorded included 191 km\/h and 179 km\/h in a 110 km\/h zone.\u00a0(Ontario Provincial Police)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Members of the Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged 40 drivers with stunt driving since Monday, May 1.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to police, officers continue to conduct targeted enforcement in response to ongoing concerns about excessive speeding and dangerous driving behaviours throughout the detachment area.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The OPP says stunt driving&nbsp;remains&nbsp;a significant road safety concern, placing motorists, passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users at risk.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the most notable offences recorded in recent weeks were drivers travelling at 191 km\/h and 179 km\/h in a 110 km\/h zone. Police also stopped motorists travelling at 120 km\/h and 110 km\/h in areas with a posted speed limit of 60 km\/h.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In another case, officers recorded a vehicle travelling at 91 km\/h in a 40 km\/h school zone during school hours.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Drivers charged with stunt driving face immediate penalties under Ontario\u2019s Highway Traffic Act, including a 30-day roadside driver&#8217;s licence suspension and a 14-day vehicle impoundment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upon conviction, offenders face a minimum fine of $2,000, which can increase significantly depending on the circumstances.&nbsp;Additional&nbsp;penalties may include demerit points, further fines, and&nbsp;possible licence&nbsp;suspension.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Russell County OPP says it&nbsp;remains&nbsp;committed to keeping roads safe and will continue proactive enforcement initiatives across the region.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anyone with information&nbsp;regarding&nbsp;stunt driving is encouraged to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
