Residents of the Township of Russell now have a new way to participate in municipal council meetings through an advance question submission option.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative allows residents to submit questions ahead of time regarding items listed on upcoming council meeting agendas. Submitted questions will then be read aloud and answered during the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the township, the new process is intended to make participation more accessible for residents who may be unable to attend meetings in person or who prefer to prepare their questions in advance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents, property owners, business owners within the Township of Russell, as well as their official representatives, are eligible to submit questions related to upcoming council meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Questions must be submitted by noon on the day of the meeting. Residents can submit their questions through an online form, by email to the Clerk\u2019s Office, or by mailing or delivering a written letter to the office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The township is also encouraging residents to review meeting agendas in advance in order to stay informed about upcoming discussions and decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To be accepted, questions must relate directly to an item listed on the meeting agenda. Submissions must also include the sender\u2019s name, as anonymous questions will not be accepted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the township states that all submissions must use respectful language and remain relevant and appropriate to the topic being discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Clerk\u2019s Office will review all submissions before the meeting. Questions that do not meet the established requirements will not be approved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During council meetings, approved questions will be read aloud during the \u201cPublic Questions on the Meeting of the Day\u201d portion of the agenda. Council members or township staff will respond when possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If a question relates to an item added to the agenda during the meeting itself, the response may be postponed until the next council meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The township also noted that approved questions and responses will form part of the live broadcast and official recording of the meeting. However, the questions and answers will not appear in the written meeting minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Municipal officials say the initiative is another step toward increasing public engagement and encouraging residents to become more involved in local decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
