As of\u00a0Wednesday, January\u00a028, the\u00a0South Nation Conservation (SNC) has lifted its Low Water Advisory after water conditions returned to normal across the conservation authority\u2019s\u00a0jurisdiction.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

The decision was made by the SNC Water Response Team following recent monitoring data showing widespread recovery in key low-water indicators throughout the watershed.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The advisory had been in effect since August\u00a025, 2025, when SNC declared a Level 3 (Severe) Low Water Advisory in response to prolonged hot and dry weather, significant precipitation\u00a0deficits,\u00a0and extremely low baseflow conditions across the region.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During\u00a0that\u00a0period,\u00a0groundwater\u00a0levels\u00a0dropped\u00a0to record\u00a0lows\u00a0at\u00a0several\u00a0Provincial\u00a0Groundwater\u00a0Monitoring Network\u00a0wells. SNC\u00a0also\u00a0received\u00a0numerous\u00a0reports of dry or\u00a0low-yielding\u00a0private\u00a0wells\u00a0from\u00a0residents\u00a0throughout\u00a0the\u00a0watershed.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Although rainfall returned to more typical levels in late October and early November, helping to ease drought conditions, the earlier water deficit was severe. As a result, many residents continued to experience water availability issues into early December.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Conditions\u00a0improving\u00a0across\u00a0the\u00a0watershed<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

According to SNC, mild weather combined with rainfall and snowmelt events in mid-December,\u00a0and early January supported a gradual recovery across the\u00a0jurisdiction. Recent data now\u00a0indicates\u00a0a return to normal conditions for stream flows, groundwater\u00a0levels\u00a0and other low-water indicators.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Based on these findings, the Water Response Team,\u00a0which includes representatives from municipal and provincial governments,\u00a0stakeholders\u00a0and water users,\u00a0determined\u00a0that the Level 3 Low Water Advisory could be lifted.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Continued\u00a0water conservation\u00a0encouraged<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

While\u00a0conditions have\u00a0improved, SNC\u00a0is\u00a0encouraging\u00a0residents\u00a0and water\u00a0users,\u00a0particularly\u00a0those\u00a0who\u00a0rely\u00a0on\u00a0private\u00a0wells, to continue\u00a0using\u00a0water\u00a0efficiently\u00a0to support long-term\u00a0water\u00a0sustainability.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
