During\u00a0ROMA, the\u00a0municipality\u00a0received\u00a0what\u00a0Lajoie\u00a0described\u00a0as\u00a0encouraging\u00a0news. Following a\u00a0recent\u00a0submission\u00a0on\u00a0Casselman\u2019s\u00a0water challenges,\u00a0she\u00a0said\u00a0Thomas\u00a0Staples, Chief of Staff to Ontario\u2019s Minister of Infrastructure,\u00a0contacted\u00a0the\u00a0municipality\u00a0to\u00a0request\u00a0an in-person\u00a0meeting\u00a0to\u00a0discuss\u00a0the next\u00a0steps. Healthcare\u00a0access\u00a0was\u00a0also\u00a0a central focus of\u00a0Casselman\u2019s\u00a0ROMA\u00a0delegations. One issue\u00a0raised\u00a0was\u00a0the\u00a0municipality\u2019s\u00a0Rurality Index of Ontario (RIO) score, which\u00a0currently\u00a0falls\u00a0just\u00a0below\u00a0the\u00a0threshold\u00a0required\u00a0to\u00a0qualify\u00a0for\u00a0physician\u00a0recruitment\u00a0incentives. Lajoie\u00a0said\u00a0this\u00a0has\u00a0contributed\u00a0to the\u00a0loss\u00a0of\u00a0physicians in the community,\u00a0leaving\u00a0more\u00a0than\u00a02,000\u00a0residents\u00a0without\u00a0a\u00a0family\u00a0doctor.\u00a0Casselman\u00a0is\u00a0asking\u00a0the province to\u00a0consider\u00a0revised\u00a0criteria\u00a0or a\u00a0targeted\u00a0pilot\u00a0project\u00a0to\u00a0address\u00a0the situation.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The second\u00a0healthcare\u00a0priority\u00a0involved\u00a0the\u00a0proposed\u00a0Casselman\u00a0Health\u00a0Hub,\u00a0developed\u00a0in partnership\u00a0with Hawkesbury and District General Hospital. Lajoie said\u00a0the\u00a0project\u00a0is\u00a0supported\u00a0and\u00a0ready\u00a0to move\u00a0forward\u00a0and\u00a0would\u00a0improve\u00a0access\u00a0to care for\u00a0residents\u00a0in western Prescott\u00a0and\u00a0Russell,\u00a0particularly\u00a0seniors and Francophone\u00a0residents. The municipality\u00a0is\u00a0seeking\u00a0clarity\u00a0from\u00a0the province\u00a0regarding\u00a0the planning\u00a0grant\u00a0and\u00a0next\u00a0steps.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to ROMA meetings, Lajoie\u00a0attended\u00a0the\u00a0Caregivers\u00a0Forum, an issue\u00a0she\u00a0said\u00a0she\u00a0has\u00a0consistently\u00a0advocated\u00a0for.\u00a0She\u00a0highlighted\u00a0the challenges\u00a0faced\u00a0by\u00a0caregivers and the need\u00a0for\u00a0improved\u00a0support,\u00a0including\u00a0better\u00a0access\u00a0to services,\u00a0respite\u00a0options, and system coordination.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While\u00a0in Toronto, the\u00a0mayor\u00a0also\u00a0met\u00a0with\u00a0Glengarry\u2013Prescott\u2013Russell MPP St\u00e9phane Sarrazin to\u00a0review\u00a0Casselman\u2019s\u00a0priorities\u00a0and\u00a0ongoing\u00a0initiatives.\u00a0She\u00a0also\u00a0held\u00a0discussions\u00a0with\u00a0the CEO of Habitat for Humanity\u00a0regarding\u00a0future collaboration and\u00a0housing\u00a0solutions in the\u00a0community.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
