The United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) have announced that the East Castor River Bridge on County Road 6 (South Russell Road) will be closed in both directions starting Wednesday, May 7, for a major rehabilitation project expected to last through the fall of 2025.<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Located north of Route 400 in the Township of Russell, the bridge will undergo a full rebuild, including new concrete barriers, updated roadside protection systems, and improved drainage infrastructure.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

J\u00e9r\u00e9mie Bouchard, Director of Public Works for the UCPR, reminded residents to exercise caution near the worksite and along detour routes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSummertime is often synonymous with major construction work on our road network, including the rehabilitation of our bridges. It is important to the UCPR that residents and visitors can always reach their destination safely. We thank the community for its cooperation over the coming months,\u201d said UCPR Warden Yves Laviolette.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The rehabilitation project is partially funded through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are pleased to see this vital infrastructure project moving forward with support from the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund. While the temporary road closure will cause some disruption, this work is essential to ensure safe and reliable travel in our community for years to come,\u201d said Mike Tarnowski, Mayor of the Township of Russell.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
