With the high temperatures persisting, the Township of Russell opened daytime cooling centers to provide relief to residents in need from Thursday, August 1, to Saturday, August 3.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Sports Dome located at 150 Sportsplex Street in Embrun is open Thursday, Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Saturday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Township of Russell Library located at 1053 Concession Street in Russell is open Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The cooling centers have air conditioning, tables, chairs, and water.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) reminds residents that extreme heat can cause dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and, in extreme cases, death.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Seniors, young children, and those taking certain medications are especially at-risk during heat waves.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of water, wear light-coloured clothing, and stay cool.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0The Russell Centennial Pool is open to the public. For the regular pool schedule, visit the Russell Township website under the Publix Pool and Swimming Lessons section.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Splash Pad at Yahoo Park is also accessible for children. It will be open an hour later, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. during the heat wave.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pets are not allowed near the public pool or splash pad.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
