Sabrina Kiskis, an elementary teacher from the Russell Public school, was granted the Service Excellence Award at the annual Board Celebration Evening by the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) on June 10.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The UCDSB Service Excellence Awards recognizes people that provide exceptional service to the board\u2019s students, their families, and co-workers. Five individual winners and one group award were handed out. One of the winners was Sabrina Kiskis, a teacher at the Russell Public School.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She was given the award for her dedication to fostering a culture of care and inclusivity in her classroom. She integrates community engagement with activities such as weekly nature walks and civic services.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kiskis tailors her instruction to meet each student’s needs and utilizes formative assessments and occupational therapy principles. She is committed to professional growth and applies new methods and resources to enhance her teaching. Her initiatives and her leadership benefit the kindergarten team and the school daycare.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Due to the school year coming to a close, Kiskis was too busy to answer questions and could not provide a quote.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During the award ceremony Rory Renwick, a Grade 6 student from the Russell Public School, was presented the Director\u2019s Red Apple Awards for the compassion, courage, and leadership she demonstrated during a bus accident this past April.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Following the collision, Rory sprang into action to ensure the physical and emotional well-being of others on the bus were met. She provided comfort and assurance to the younger students while they waited for first responders, and she continued to help until everyone was safely off the bus.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
