Take Back the Night march

2023 Women’s March coming to Clarence-Rockland

This year’s Centre Novas – CALACS Francophone de Prescott-Russell women’s march is taking place in Clarence-Rockland for its 16th edition.

The annual women’s march “Take Back the Night” is an event symbolizing the reclamation of public spaces at night and protest violence against women in Canada. Centre Novas partners with communities across the United Counties of Prescott Russell (UCPR) to hold the annual nighttime protest.

According to organizers, one in three women in Canada experience sexual assault in their lifetime.

“Violence against women and girls takes many forms every day and is often minimized or ignored. Yet sexual assault, harassment, sexual exploitation, domestic violence, sexism and femicide are a reality everywhere in Canada, and must never be trivialized,” said the Centre Novas.

Partnering with municipalities and the UCPR highlights the region will not accept continued violence against women in their communities, said the Centre Novas press release.

Everyone in the Prescott-Russell region invited to participate on September 20, departing at 6 p.m. from the Optimist Performance Hall in Rockland.
