On Tuesday, May 5, students and staff at De La Rivière Castor Public Elementary School in Embrun concluded a major fundraising drive that raised $6,010.

Organized in tribute to Sergeant Éric Mueller, who died in the line of duty in May 2023, the initiative raised several thousand dollars for two causes: the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at CHEO and the Sergeant Éric Mueller Foundation Endowment Fund.

The project has engaged the entire school community over the past few weeks, as students took on various challenges and activities to raise donations. This effort not only supported important organizations but also raised awareness among young people about community engagement and solidarity.

The May 5 celebration brought together many participants, including members of Sergeant Mueller’s family, representatives from the Conseil des écoles publiques de l’Est de l’Ontario (CEPEO), and community partners.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were also present, accompanied by a patrol vehicle adorned with the colors of the Franco-Ontarian flag, a symbolic gesture highlighting both Sergeant Mueller’s legacy and the community’s Francophone identity.

The event was marked by an atmosphere that was both festive and filled with gratitude, highlighting the positive impact of collective effort. The organizers praised the involvement of students, staff, and families, who contributed to the success of this initiative.

Through this fundraiser, De La Rivière Castor School turned a tribute into concrete action, demonstrating the strength of a community united around the values of compassion, remembrance, and mutual support.
