Spike in car thefts at local water park prompts police warning

Three vehicles were stolen in just two days from a local water park, prompting the Russell County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to urge motorists to take extra precautions.

Police say the thefts occurred on Sunday, July 27, and Monday, July 28, 2025. Officers from the Russell County Detachment were called to the scene on three separate occasions to investigate.

In response, the OPP is reminding residents to secure their vehicles and be alert in parking areas. Recommended safety measures include to always lock your vehicle, even for short absences, install a steering wheel lock, car alarm, or a GPS tracker, use a brake or clutch pedal lock to prevent disengaging the parking brake or clutch, equip your vehicle with immobilizers or kill switches, and stay aware of surroundings and reporting suspicious activity to police.

Anyone with information about these thefts is asked to contact the Russell County OPP at 613-443-4499 or the OPP Communication Centre at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), with the possibility of a cash reward of up to $2,000.
