The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Community Street Crime Unit has solved a string of break-ins in Casselman, recovering approximately $40,000 worth of stolen property and arresting one suspect.
Between July 1 and September 27, 2025, police received reports of 18 break-ins in the Casselman area. Following an investigation, members of the Community Street Crime Unit, assisted by the Russell County OPP, executed a search warrant at a residence on Laflèche Boulevard in Casselman on Monday, October 27.
During the search, officers seized a large quantity of stolen items, including contractor tools, power tools, an acetylene cutting torch, and alcohol.
As a result, Yohan Caissy, 22, of Casselman, has been charged with 18 counts of break and enter to commit an indictable offence, disguise with intent, possession of break-in tools, and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
Caissy was released from custody following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal on November 5, 2025.
Police say most of the stolen property has been returned to its rightful owners. However, some Dewalt power tools remain unclaimed. Anyone who believes the tools may belong to them is asked to contact Detective Constable Boileau at 613-443-4499.
