The community of Embrun welcomed its newest grocery store with enthusiasm as Food Basics, operated by Metro Ontario Inc., officially opened its doors. The grand opening drew an impressive crowd, with lines wrapping around the building as residents gathered to celebrate the occasion.
From the outset, Food Basics demonstrated its commitment to the community by presenting a $5,000 donation to the Good Neighbours Food Bank. The contribution was received by the organization’s president, Jean-François Gignac. The company also pledged to join Embrun’s other local grocers in regularly supporting the food bank through customer contributions.
“This is community spirit at its best,” noted Russell Township Mayor Mike Tarnowski, who attended the event alongside residents.

The new store is managed by Lynn Vachon, who, along with the entire Food Basics team, received a warm welcome from the community and municipal officials.
With its arrival, Food Basics not only expands shopping options for residents but also reinforces a culture of giving back, ensuring continued support for families in need.
