Boy hits fishing line on ATV trail

On a Facebook group intended for fishing enthusiasts in the Ottawa region, Sean Mclean posted a warning to those in the area after his son took out the family ATV for a ride and hit the first of several fishing lines strung across the path.

In his post, McLean noted his son was largely unharmed as he was not going very fast and the line snapped upon contact.

According to police, when officers were called to the scene the lines had been removed and no evidence of their placement could be found.

Jeff Dale, vice-president of the ATV Club of Eastern Ontario (ATVCEO), received reports of the incident, but it did not occur on an ATVCEO-designated trail. However, the organization investigated and was also unable to find any trace of the wires.

“My suspicion is that it’s a group of kids who think they are playing a joke,” said Dale in an email. “But I have no confirmation of that at all.”

Anyone who comes across potentially harmful manipulations of ATV and bike trails is encouraged to contact police immediately.
