The Nation Fire Department and the Municipality of The Nation are mourning the passing of retired Fire Chief Aurèle Constantineau, who dedicated 45 years of service to the Limoges Fire Department.
Constantineau served the Limoges community throughout his career, with the department eventually becoming part of The Nation Fire Department. Over his 45 years of service, he demonstrated a strong commitment to the fire service, the community and the firefighters who served alongside him.
The Nation Fire Department said Constantineau’s leadership and dedication left a lasting legacy within the department.
The Nation Mayor Francis Brière also expressed his condolences, saying Constantineau’s passing was deeply felt throughout the community.
“For 45 years, Chief Constantineau served the Limoges Fire Department with dedication, leadership and a genuine commitment to the people around him,” Brière said. “He was there for his community in moments when help was needed most, while also supporting and guiding the firefighters who served alongside him.”
Brière said the memories shared by residents and those who knew Constantineau in the days following his passing have highlighted not only his years of service, but also the impact he had on those around him.
“They speak not only to his years of service, but to the remarkable man he was and how deeply he was valued by all who knew him,” he said.
Brière also highlighted the role volunteer firefighters play in their communities, describing them as neighbours who dedicate their time and energy to serving and protecting the places they call home.
“Chief Constantineau understood that responsibility and devoted much of his life to it,” Brière said.
On behalf of council and The Nation Municipality, Brière extended his condolences to Constantineau’s family, friends, former colleagues and everyone who was touched by his service.
“His contribution to Limoges and to our fire service will not be forgotten,” he said.
Flags lowered to half-mast
In honour of Constantineau, flags at municipal facilities throughout The Nation will be lowered to half-mast for the five days leading up to his funeral.
The Nation Fire Department also extended its condolences to Constantineau’s family, friends and colleagues.
A vigil has been set up at Boboul Restaurant & Pizza, described as Constantineau’s favourite coffee spot, where residents can stop by to pay their respects and share memories.
His 45 years of service represent decades of commitment to Limoges and the surrounding community, as well as to generations of firefighters who served alongside him.
