Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Ottawa Detachment, the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (T.I.M.E.) Team, and OPP Auxiliary members joined Ottawa Police Service (OPS) Traffic Units and OPS Aviation in a combined traffic enforcement initiative on Friday, May 15.

The operation took place between 6 p.m. and midnight as part of the OPP’s Canada Road Safety Week campaign and the May long weekend enforcement efforts.

During the initiative, officers laid a total of 57 charges. Offences included impaired driving, stunt driving, driving while under suspension, and operating a vehicle without insurance.

Police also impounded six vehicles during the enforcement operation.

With the arrival of the summer travel season, police say more Ontarians will be taking to the roads for vacations and recreational travel. Motorists across the province can expect to see continued enforcement efforts by both the OPP and Ottawa Police Service in the coming months.

According to police, the goal of these initiatives is to help ensure safer roads and reduce dangerous driving behaviours.
Authorities are also reminding residents to plan ahead if alcohol or drugs are involved.
