Russell Township is reversing late payment penalties for municipal service bills affected by recent Canada Post service interruptions.
Many residents did not receive their bills on time, prompting the Township to authorize an exceptional reversal of late notice fees for this billing period. Those who have already paid penalties will see a credit applied to their next bill.
Officials plan to submit a formal procedure to Council to address similar situations in the future. However, residents are reminded that it remains their responsibility to ensure bills are paid on time, even during postal delays. The Township emphasized that it cannot be held accountable for Canada Post strikes or service issues.
Residents are also urged to treat municipal staff with respect, as employees are enforcing by-laws and performing their duties. Inappropriate behaviour at Town Hall will not be tolerated.
To avoid future inconveniences, the Township encourages residents to use digital services, including paperless billing, preauthorized withdrawals, and the Virtual Russell portal. These tools provide fast and reliable access to billing information and community updates. Residents can also subscribe to email notifications and follow the Township on social media for important news and dates.
