Snowmobile catches fire at gas pump

A routine refueling stop turned dangerous when a snowmobile caught fire at the Petro Canada gas pump at the four-way stop in Embrun on Sunday, February 23. Witness Richard Quinn immediately acted, calmly extinguishing the flames with a fire extinguisher before the situation could escalate.

Emergency responders were called to the scene. Everyone at the site was reported to be safe, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) confirmed.

“(I) feel bad for the poor guy whose skidoo went up in flames, but thankful it was not worse than it was,” commented Michell J.M. Lalond on their Facebook post.

The Eastern Ontario Snowmobile Club declined to comment on the incident.

The OPP urges snowmobilers to be cautious when fueling their hot machines, to not leave gas nozzles unattended, and to avoid using the nozzle hold open switch.
